Hello everyone! My name is Marissa and I am thrilled to announce that I will be an intern at the Spanish Clubhouse this summer! I will be involved in the classroom as an assistant teacher and I will also be taking over this blog for the summer. Since I will be so involved at the Spanish Clubhouse, I thought I would tell you a little about myself. I recently graduated from Kirkwood High School after taking six years of Spanish Language classes. I have just taken the Advanced Placement Spanish Exam and I was chosen as my graduating classes’ Best Spanish Student of the Year. Last summer, I spent a month living abroad in Salamanca, Spain to practice my Spanish and learn more about the fascinating culture. In Salamanca, I was able to take classes at La Universidad de Salamanca and live with a host family. I also took the SIELE Language Placement Exam (Servicio Internacional de Evaluación de la Lengua Española or the International Service Evaluation of the Spanish Language) and am in the process of applying for a Seal of Biliteracy. After my internship this summer, I will be entering Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. Though I will be sad to travel 892 miles (14 hours) away from the Spanish Clubhouse and my home here in Kirkwood, I plan to major in Spanish and I am ecstatic about the opportunity to live in San Antonio where 64% of the residents are Hispanic. I am hopeful that I will be able to practice my Spanish skills in my everyday life. In my free time, you will often catch me reading books or watching Netflix in Spanish. I guess you could say that I really love the Spanish language and I’m excited to pass on my passion for the language and culture to the students at the Spanish Clubhouse!
