We all learn things every day. Sometimes happy things, sometimes, not so happy. That’s why we should grab the opportunity, for ourselves or the ones we love, to learn something new that’s also fun to do. Learning a new language and the culture that surrounds it adds richness to our lives. Young children learn easily because everything is new to them. Learning is what they do. The older we get the harder it is to learn something new but the rewards are just as great, maybe even more so. Picking up a few words or phrases can be thrilling and creates a greater understanding of different cultures. Learning to actually speak a language can be deeply satisfying. Our children should be encouraged to become bi-lingual or even multi-lingual as a way to embrace the larger world. It will make them more sympathetic, more appreciative, and more open to people who don’t look or speak just like them. With this, they become better citizens of the world and that’s a very good thing.
